Video- The ups and downs of releasing an indie Wii U launch game

"[Releasing on] launch day itself is not that important."

In this free GDC Vault video from GDC Europe 2013, Felix Bohatsch of And Yet It Moves developer Broken Rules discusses the pros and cons of releasing a game at the Wii U's launch, in the talk 'Chasing Aurora: The Indie Console Launch Title Postmortem'. Broken Rules explains how it could have used extra time to polish their game, and that the time polishing would have helped them avoid competing with major launch titles. The studio also warned against developing exclusively for a console that makes cross-platform ports difficult. For more on the team's latest project, for which Chasing Aurora served as its prototype, check out the unusual evolution of Broken Rules' Secrets of Rætikon.
